STEVE - OUR NEWSLETTER EDITOR

I first became interested in what is now termed classic cars way back in 1976. In those days the classic vehicles of today, were an every day sight and they could be picked up quite cheaply.

My first car, after passing my test, was an Austin Cambridge A55 Mk1 NJY 808, which served me well for 2 years. This was followed by an Austin Cambridge A55 Mk2 41JOD which I used for 13 years and which I still have today. The reason for keeping the car for so long was that it never let me down and was fairly basic to repair. When the car was laid up in 199, it had 188,000 miles on the speedometer.

In May 1983, I was offered the chance of buying a Morris 8 Series E. This car had been laid for some time and although the underside was in quite good order, the interior was in a bit of a state. I took the decision to renew all the upholstery, a task I undertook myself. Despite a few errors, the overall effect was quite good and it is still used today. This car is also still in my ownership and I derive great pleasure from using it. It is by no means an about town car, as it has taken me on trips around the country to various shows.

My latest acquisition (August 2004) is a 1938 Morris ‘8’ 4 seat tourer. This car has had a total restoration job done on it, which has taken 2 ½ years to do. This car has not only been used for going to shows, but it has also been earmarked for a trip to Scotland in August 2007.

Since the first days of the British Made Car Club, I have been the Devon & Cornwall Secretary, a position I still hold. I am currently the clubs newsletter editor for the second time so I must be doing something right!! I have also had the honour of being the clubs' Chairman in the past.
